Jonathan Stephens Portrait Photo Shoot

I’m so anxious to apply the tremendous amounts of knowledge that I have aquired over the last few weeks.  Yesterday was pretty bad.  I mean I was really itching to take some photos using my new flash setup and sharpen my recently acquired skills, so after racking my brain I decided to head to Capture Cafe and find someone there who might be interested in being a model on the spot.

The cafe manager, Jonathan Stephens, agreed to be my model so I setup the fairly mobile rig in a matter of minutes and snagged a few shots.  This is basically a 2 light setup.  One flash to camera right and one flash to light up the background, which was a piece of textured/stained glass that I chose to light with my blue gelled flash at 1/4 power.  The keylight was fired at 1/8 power, f/7.1, 1/160 sec, 70mm, at ISO 400mm.

I would love to hear any comments/critique on the photo as this is only my second attempt at off camera flash photography.  There was really no creative direction for this shot except to practice proper exposure and experiment a little.

What do you think?

These turned out great. I want to play around more with the vivitars when they come in. I’m looking at another pocket wizard to go with my other 2 so I don’t have to have an on-camera flash.

Let’s go play again soon and let me know when you get Johanna’s photos done. The password to her gallery is password on my site.
